Patients often ask these questions about Invisalign Treatment:

Does Invisalign work? How?

Yes!  Invisalign works, often faster than traditional (wired) braces. We make a series of clear plastic aligners that are worn and progressively move the teeth in the proper direction as prescribed by Dr. Wooddell. The chief difference between Invisalign and traditional braces is that Invisalign aligners provide the needed gentle force to move the teeth, rather than the wires in traditional braces.

How long does Invisalign treatment take and how much does it cost?

The treatment time varies, just as it does with traditional braces.  We can treat some cases in a matter of a few months, others take 18 months or more.  Often, Invisalign can accomplish the necessary tooth movement in less time than traditional braces.  As for cost, there is a fee range based primarily on the length and complexity of your treatment.

What is the process?

You will wear each set of clear plastic aligners for two weeks. They will apply gentle pressure to move the teeth a certain amount, then you will wear the next set of aligners to continue the movements. This process is repeated until the teeth are straight.  Aligners are worn day and night, and you only remove them when eating or brushing your teeth.

Does it hurt?

Just like when braces are adjusted, many patients will experience some mild tooth soreness for a day or two with each set of aligners.  This is common, but not everybody experiences this.  Overall, the discomfort is less than traditional braces – Invisalign aligners are much more confortable to wear!

Are there restrictions on what I can eat?

No!  Unlike traditional braces, you remove Invisalign aligners before eating, so there are no eating restrictions and no wires or brackets to break.

How are Invisalign aligners made?

First, we make precise impressions of your teeth and take photos.  We also conduct an examination at this appointment – called a “workup appointment”.  Dr. Wooddell submits the impressions, along with the photos and a precise customized treatment plan, to Invisalign.  Invisalign then sends back a complete plan in the form of a 3-D computer image model, which we review with the patient before the treatment is begun.  This offers the patient the best option to fully review their treatment plan and decide whether they feel that Invisalign is best for them.
